Rosedale, Kansas City, KS

Rosedale is a neighborhood in Kansas City, KS, and is one of the more impoverished areas of the city. Rosedale is home to many low-income, rental housing predominantly occupied by African Americans.

There are also several abandoned, boarded-up homes throughout the area. Most residents are renters, and the average rent is below market value. There are also many Section 8 properties in Rosedale.

Rosedale is famous for its annual block party, which is held for two days in June. The event features car and bike shows, a small carnival with rides and games, and much more. The neighborhood also holds other events throughout the year such as picnics and fun runs.

Rosedale has become an increasingly popular destination due to its “old-school atmosphere” and close proximity to the more upscale midtown area.

In the late 1940s, the construction of I-70 brought many people to Rosedale’s doorstep, causing a population boom. This building boom resulted in several trailer parks being built in and around the area. Eventually, these were demolished and replaced with better housing.

Rosedale is frequently referred to as “The Village“. This name comes from its layout, which was designed with the main street serving as the central thoroughfare.

Rosedale was incorporated in 1887 but wasn’t recognized by the state or federal government until 1907. Before that time, Rosedale functioned under the laws of the State of Kansas.

Rosedale became a part of the city of Kansas City, KS in 1959.
