Money Museum

The Money Museum in Kansas City, MO, is the only museum of its kind in the world. You can visit this museum at 1223 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64106 USA. Business hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, with the last admission one hour before closing time. Admission is free.

The museum has a collection of more than 15,000 items made from paper currency and coins. Exhibits include ancient currencies used in China, Africa, Europe and Native America, as well as United States currency from the 18th century to modern day. The museum also provides information on how money is made today and how it is used in retail stores. Visitors can shop for currency-related items at the museum gift shop.

The Money Museum was established in 1983 by a dedicated group of volunteers who wanted to share their interests and knowledge regarding currency history with others. The goal was, and still is, to provide a place where children and adults can learn about money and how it works.

 In addition to the exhibits on paper currency, there are displays of coins from around the world and a large collection of tokens from local Kansas City businesses. The museum also features a display case containing some of the most famous rare coins in history, including Robert E. Hecht’s personal American gold coin collections.

The Money Museum offers classes and workshops to the public. Topics include early colonial American money, coin minting equipment, Native American currency and paper money of China. The museum also offers classes for teachers who want to include the history of money in curriculums for their students. Community outreach programs are offered on weekends by appointment only. Reservations are required.

The Money Museum is a nonprofit organization. It generates funding from memberships, donations from visitors and from items sold at the gift shop.

Visitors can also download a free app from Google Play or the Apple Store for iOS devices. The Money Museum app allows users to explore all aspects of currency, from ancient to modern times.

The Money Museum also has a YouTube channel where people can watch videos discussing the history of various currencies used around the world throughout time.

Visitors can become members of the museum by enrolling online or at the front desk. There are a variety of membership levels available to suit any budget and all memberships provide unlimited admission to the museum exhibits.
